Explanation of Who Does What on the Programme

The Programme Tutor

The person managing the HND is your programme tutor, Lynette Pye. She acts as a sort of manager of the programme, reporting to the University and external organisations on the health of the programme and organises the scheme committee meetings, etc. It is ultimately her responsibility to sort out any problems in the running of the programme. One of the tasks that comes with the job is keeping track of your progress, so she is an appropriate member of staff to approach for an academic reference. Furthermore, she is the personal tutor for final year HND students. Contact details are below.

The First Year Tutor

The first year tutor, Maurice Armstrong, is responsible for making sure the first year runs smoothly. He is the person to see if you need to change tutor groups in the first few weeks of term, or if you have serious problems which affect your work. Contact Details are below.

Personal Tutors

You will also have a personal tutor. He or she will help you settle into the University and will see you regularly throughout the year. Your personal tutor will also monitor your attendance and progress through the first few months and help you with study skills if necessary. You may wish to discuss personal problems with your tutor, but if not, he or she can tell you where to go for help.

Progamme Adminstrator

Carol Norris now looks after all of the HND Computing students (effective from Christmas 2004) She holds your student records and handles all the paperwork associated with these records. She also deals with routine communications with Local Education Authorities. You should inform Carol of any change needed to your student record e.g. change of address, next of kin, disability status. It is the administrator that will send out results letters each year. Information Consultant

You also have access to an information consultant who knows about the sort of thing you will study on the HND Computing scheme of study. Her name is Susan Heale. She will instruct you during induction week on how to use the services and equipment in the Learning Resources Centre. She will attend the scheme committee meetings throughout the year and listen to the comments made by the student representatives. If you have particular problems you can make an appointment to see her. Her office is in the LRC. Contact details are below.
