General Directions

The University of Hertfordshire at Hatfield is situated 3 miles north of the London orbital (M25) at junction 3 of the A1(M) and is easily accessible by road, rail (Hatfield or Stevenage stations) and air (Luton, Stanstead, Heathrow, Gatwick).

In the following, possible arrival routes by public transport are explained. If you use your own car, please refer to the maps.

Air travel

Via Stansted Airport

The most convenient way to get to to Hatfield is by bus, but there is also a train connection.

By bus: From Stansted airport, there are direct buses to the University of Hertfordshire. Two bus lines serve that route, Line 757 (to Oxford) and Line 717 (to Brighton). Travel time is 45 minutes. Each line runs approximately two-hourly during daytime.

To see the exact bus times from Stansted to UH, check the time tables, with start and goal locations Stansted Airport and Hatfield.

By train: Theoretically, the travel should take 1:15 hours, but one should take into account possible delays and waiting times. Take the Stansted Express towards London. In Tottenham Hale station, take the Picadilly Line (underground) westbound to Finsbury Park station.

From Finsbury Park station, there are regular trains to Hatfield station.

From Hatfield Station, one can take a cab (e.g. 01707 890095 or 07957 645188) or a bus to the College Lane Campus of the University of Hertfordshire (not the De Havilland one!). Line 602, towards the St. Albans/Watford/Borehamwood/London Colney direction goes to the university, also ask if in doubt. During the day, there is also a fast connection from train station to the University campus via the 603 bus line.

Via Heathrow Airport

There is a direct bus connection, line 724 from Heathrow Airport to Hatfield, Town Centre. It runs one-hourly and the travel takes around 1:40 hours.

From the town centre, take a cab (e.g. 01707 890095 or 07957 645188) or a bus (line 602, towards Watford) to the University of Hertfordshire.

A new service, the line 717, may be connecting Heathrow Airport directly to the University of Hertfordshire (status: Wed Feb 15 15:05:30 2012). This may be more convenient; however, at the present time more information was not available and the traveller may want to confirm the operation of this service on-site in Heathrow.

Via Gatwick Airport

From Gatwick Airport trains are going via London to Hatfield. From Gatwick airport take the train and then the underground (e.g. Piccadilly line), change at Finsbury Park, from there take a train to Hatfield.

A new service, the line 717, may be connecting Gatwick Airport directly to the University of Hertfordshire (status: Wed Feb 15 15:05:30 2012). This may be more convenient; however, at the present time more information was not available and the traveller may want to confirm the operation of this service on-site in Gatwick.

Train Travel

Via Eurostar

If you are arriving with the Eurostar, from Waterloo station, take the underground (Northern line, direction: "northbound") and change at Warren Street. Switch to the Victoria line (eastbound) and change at Finsbury Park. Take the train to Hatfield Station.

Other Trains

Take the underground to Finsbury Park. From there, take the train to Hatfield Station.

Accomodation

You can choose between Bed and Breakfast accomodations and Hotels.

Other accomodation (Bed and Breakfast places) is to be found in the nearby historical cathedral town St. Albans. The tourist Office of St. Albans can be reached by phone: 01727 864511. There are buses from St. Albans to University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield Campus (number 602 and others). Parking spaces for visitors can be arranged close to main reception on prior notification.
