PSiFA stands for 'Polytechnic Science Fiction and Fantasy Association'. The name came from when the University of Hertfordshire was called Hatfield Polytechnic, but U.S.i.F.A is far harder to pronounce and doesn't have the same ring, so the previous name stuck.
We aim to promote an interest in, and provide facilities for, the enjoyment of science fiction, fantasy, anime and horror in all their forms. This is predominantly done by showing films and TV shows weekly.
PSiFA is now, more than ever, a great society for fans of anything even slightly weird. Firstly, between us we can probably answer most Sci-fi, Fantasy, Anime, Horror, (dare I use the word cult?) question you could want. This society is made of people who enjoy their hobby, and also enjoy having fun. But, if that's not enough (let's be honest, it isn't) there are other great things about PSiFA:
So now you have lots of reasons to want to be joining PSiFA, or at least come along a few times to see what its like. You never know, you might enjoy yourself...
*Not a guarantee
Hopefully by now you are fully impressed and wish to join the society to become a fully-fledged PSiFA member. Membership lets you come to every meeting, particpate in PSiFA activities (for free or at a reduced cost) as well as letting you have a spiffy membership card.
To register on-line to join club and societies: go to activities.uhsu.co.uk and pay your registration fee. Take your Student ID card, along with a recent passport sized photograph (and your joining fee payment if not paid on-line) to the UHSU General Office, College Lane. Your membership card will be made up immediately. The registration fee for the first society you join is £10, with any societies you join afterwards being £5 each. If you need any other help in joining, feel free to contact
The PSiFA constitution can be found here and can be updated at each PSiFA AGM.
We meet twice weekly on a Monday and Thursday, for Games and Movies on each respective night. For more information on when and where, look at 'Weekly Events'.
We sometimes hold special events throughout the year, and these will be shown on the Special Events page, for any information about these events go there.
